Test any web pages for accessibility and code errors:
Yes, you can do a quick check yourself to see if a website page fails certain standards by following the links to the on-line tools on this page. You can check:
- pages on this site
- any pages from other sites, including other website design companies!
- your existing website
What you need to do first, open the validators:
Each of the following web addresses are independent on-line checking and validating tools.
Copy each address and paste it into a separate open browser window and keep this page open so you can follow the instructions:
[1] Test for valid code, to see whether the html code is free of errors.
Remember, if you want your website to perform well in Google, Yahoo, etc, then the code has to be correct and has to be validated to W3C standards.
Certain accessibility aids (ie voice readers) require the code to be valid
Also many mobile phones demand it to be error free for them to operate.

[2] Test a website against Accessibility Guidelines on the Functional Accessibility Evaluator at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Remember, legally you must have a website that doesn’t discriminate against disabilities.

When we test for a site for Accessibility, we use a number of different automated tests as well as manual tests, so this is just the tip of the ice berg – you will be amazed at the number of sites that fail even this!
Secondly choose a webpage to check
You can copy one of our page addresses (look in the address bar of your web browser) or, choose a different company by searching for professional web design companies in a local information business site and click through to their website and then copy their page address.
Now let’s test those pages!
Paste that copied page address into the required box on the Validator form and press the ‘Check’ button.
Then paste the same address into the Functional Accessibility Evaluator and press the ‘Evaluate’ button.
You can check as many pages as you like.
The Accessibility Evaluator won’t guarantee that the page you are testing is not discriminating against disabilities, but if the page fails you can be reasonably sure that the page is badly designed and built, and will discriminate against disabilities!
