Man hanging on to a pole in a gale - optimised websites go faster!

We design and build standards-based websites that give a rich desktop experience.

Flash is a brilliant media for the internet, when used correctly.

Not everyone can, or wants, to enable Flash animations so we aim to create websites that don’t disintegrate and look poor when the user has not got the software to handle it.

We want to create websites that look great and we want yours to stand out from your competitors, but we would not recommend you having a whole Flash site.

The reasons being;

It is frustrating to surfers who haven’t got the software to see it.

We want quick loading pages, and it is a fact that people give up on slow loading sites.

The answer is to not have a huge area devoted to Flash, then if people don’t want to view it, or can’t view it, it doesn’t destroy the whole page.

The first page (home page) is very important for search engines and yet they cannot crawl Flash swf files. As far as Google is concerned, it can easily decompile a .swf file, to detect any “spam” links, but you won’t get any benefit from your flash site because your content will be hidden.

Bear in mind also that the text on Flash pages can’t be copied and pasted, and many Flash pages can’t be ‘bookmarked’ so your customer can’t view it later.

Having said all that, we think Flash is brilliant and it does create good flexible sizing of images and animation.

We bear all those concerns in mind when we design and build our websites.
